Housing Authority of the City of Yuma

How to Apply for Low Income Housing

Houses

The Housing Authority of the City of Yuma offers several low income housing programs, and each one has its own waiting list and its own application. Start here to find the program that fits your household, then follow the steps for that program.

Waiting List Status

Each program keeps a separate waiting list, and those lists open and close at different times. A list that is closed today may reopen later. To find out which lists are currently accepting applications, call our office at (928) 782-3823 ext. 110 or check back on this page for updates.

Step 1: Choose Your Program

Review the programs below to see which one matches your situation. You may qualify for more than one, and applying to one program does not place you on another program's list.

Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher

Find your own rental unit with a private landlord in the Yuma area and HACY pays a portion of the rent directly to the owner. The assistance belongs to your family, so it can move with you.

RAD Properties

Former HACY public housing converted under the Rental Assistance Demonstration program to long-term project-based Section 8 contracts. Rent stays at roughly 30% of household income, and the assistance stays with the unit.

Mesa Heights

A 58-unit Low Income Housing Tax Credit community on South Arizona Avenue. These are tax credit units with rental subsidy through project-based vouchers, and the property includes an on-site Community Resource Center.

Mesa Heights

Carver Park Townhomes

A 36-unit Low Income Housing Tax Credit development managed by HACY, also supported by project-based vouchers. Rents are set against area median income for qualifying families.

Step 2: Apply Online

Most HACY programs use the same online application portal. Once your application is submitted, your name is placed on a waiting list regulated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

  1. Create your account. You will need a valid email address to register. Use the account creation guide to walk through setup: Account Creation Guide (PDF).
  2. Complete the online application in full. Make sure all information, including your mailing address, phone number, and household composition, is accurate and up to date.
  3. Watch for your confirmation. Once HACY receives and reviews your application, a confirmation will be sent to the email address and mailing address listed on your application.
  4. Review your confirmation carefully. Check that all information is correct. If you do not receive confirmation within 20 business days, call our office at (928) 782-3823 ext. 110.

Questions About Your Application?

Our team is here to help. Reach us Monday through Friday during regular business hours.

Keep Your Application Current

It is important that you update your application every time there is a change in your mailing address, phone number, or household composition. Families are frequently removed from the waiting list because mailed correspondence could not be delivered. Staying current protects your place on the list.

Reasonable Accommodations

Persons with disabilities who require reasonable accommodations to complete the online application may call the Housing Authority of the City of Yuma at (928) 782-3823 to make special arrangements.

Not Every HACY Community Has a Waiting List

Some of the rentals we manage, including Mesa Heights Village, are leased directly through our Property Management office. There is no waiting list and no online application for these units. Call (928) 782-3823 ext. 124 for current rates, availability, and to schedule a tour.
