Report Fraud
The Housing Authority for the City of Yuma (HACY) investigator is charged with promoting integrity, efficiency and effectiveness for the agency’s programs and operations.  This includes preventing, detecting and prosecuting fraud, criminal activity and abuse.  By ways of partnerships with local non-profit agencies, local, state and federal police agencies, anonymous tips and fraud referrals, the office of investigations aims to improve the quality of life for HACY tenants and the community we reside in.

Housing fraud is a misrepresentation that allow a person to receive housing assistance for which he/she does not qualify. Below are some examples of housing fraud:

Underestimating income
Unreported income
Falsifying family composition
Extra people or family members at the home
Criminal activity
Gangs
Drugs
Assault
Theft / Burglary
Domestic violence
Other criminal activity
Renting one’s apartment unit to another
Extra people in the apartment/home
Paying the landlord extra rent outside of the contract

People who claim benefits for which they are not qualified deprive others of affordable housing.  Funds used up fraudsters could instead assist families who truly need it.
