Michael Morrissey –
Executive Director; Housing Authority City of Yuma

Michael Morrissey joined the Housing Authority City of Yuma (HACY) as its Executive Director in December 2007.  Under the direction of the Board of Commissioners, he is responsible for planning, managing, supervising, and administering all programs and related operational activity for HACY, and serves as the Board of Commissioner’s Secretary/Treasurer.  Mr. Morrissey developed The SHINE Program, an after-school sports program for children grades two through six with a mentoring component for youth in middle and high school.  SHINE is an acronym for Sports Helping Influence Neighborhood Excellence.  He believes in building strong communities one neighborhood at a time. Additionally, Mr. Morrissey is in the process of developing CityLINK, a service coordinator resource and training program in collaboration with Arizona Western College.  CityLINK will connect those in need with those who serve.

Prior to joining the Housing Authority City of Yuma, Mr. Morrissey worked in Portland, Maine for the Avesta Housing Development Corporation (Avesta) as the Director of Management for more than five years.  He was responsible for the overall management and direction of the Property Management Division and the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program.  Prior to joining Avesta, he worked in Massachusetts for the Corcoran Management Company (CMC) as a Property Manager, Community Developer, and Corporate Trainer, and served on the CMC Leadership Team for more than seven years.  In addition, Mr. Morrissey worked for the Flatley Company as a Supervisor for approximately three years.  Mr. Morrissey’s career has focused on property management, community development, staff training, leadership, service, and conflict resolution.   

Mr. Morrissey received a Master of Arts Degree in Dispute Resolution with concentrations in Negotiation, Mediation, and Conflict Resolution from the University of Massachusetts – Boston and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication Arts with concentrations in Corporate Communications, Spanish and English from Framingham State College.

Mr. Morrissey is a Certified Property Manager (CPM) as designated by the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM), and a National Affordable Housing Professional (NAHP) as certified by the National Affordable Housing Management Association (NAHMA).  He completed the Executive Director Education Program (EDEP) sponsored by Rutgers University and the Public Housing Authorities Directors Association (PHADA).  And, he is currently enrolled in the Professional Service Coordinators Certificate Program sponsored by Ohio State University and the American Association of Service Coordinators (AASC).  He serves on the Board of Directors for the Yuma Community Food Bank, and previously served on the Board of Directors for the Maine Real Estate Managers Association (MREMA) and the Community Mediation Center (CMC).  He was recognized by the Maine Real Estate Managers Association for his distinguished service and was a recipient of the MREMA President’s Award.  Mr. Morrissey is an active member in a number of industry-related associations, and is trained and certified in various industry-related, leadership, service, and conflict resolution programs.
